So to start, we should probably reintroduce ourselves.
We are Mike and Emma Bolton, and we started our business at the end of 2021 after realising we could do our bit for the environment by producing organic mealworms.
Our dogs were actually our inspiration for our business. We came across another brand of dog food made from insects which had a minimal impact on the environment and thought it was such a fantastic idea. Our thinking was “we should be feeding our beloved pets this insect-based food as it still gives dogs an authentic protein but saves massive cost to the environment.’
Initially, we used the other brand of dog food, but after some further thought, we wondered whether we could supply the UK market with our own mealworms which could be used by other manufacturers and for bird food.
It wasn’t long before we had a living room full of trays of mealworms and beetles, so we moved them all into a container. As their numbers grew, we applied for a grant from Enterprising Worcester and were successful, so we bought an insulated container and now our mealworm colony is getting huge!
We love that our mealworms are organically reared by us, which means that all of their by-products, like skin sheddings and poop are completely natural and our farming processes are organically certified – especially good for feeding your own chickens. The same applies for growing your own veg with our EntoGrow fertiliser!
We want to give people options for living sustainably, not lecture them, so we hope you’ll follow us on our socials and stay in touch by coming back to this blog. We are really happy to chat with you about any queries you may have. And, we love hearing your feedback and suggestions too so feel free to pop us a message or send us an email!
